Home, sweet home..

This post is a work-in-progress.
Well, I am officially MIA now. Meaning, I am about here:

Friends will be friends..

or so.. ;)

Anyway, not really a post about Inter Rail itself, but about the things it does (can do?) with friendship.

Yesterday I fell rather sick. We were running around Berlin quite a bit and were actually planning to go out later in the night, but when we lay down to get an hour of sleep I felt that I was developing a fever and wasn’t feeling so well generally. So I stayed in bed while the others went down to the bar of our hostel, I took some antibiotics (cause I don’t seem to get well without them.. :/ ) and fell off.

At about midnight I was woken up by all three of them handing me pills against fever and my cough. Apparently one of them went to Alexanderplatz and somehow managed to get all that stuff in the middle of the night.

Now, the thing is the three of us weren’t best friends when we left Austria. We knew each other well and we liked each other, but it wasn’t a really deep friendship, I guess. Sometime during those last three weeks that changed. We know each other really well - our weeknesses, our strenghts and we care for each other. I guess that is the most valuable thing I have learned from Inter Rail.

Hope all of you are having a great time as well (wherever your are)!

Inter Rail plans..

Disclaimer: I’m tired and I’m watching the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy TV series so don’t expect a coherent well-written post here.

As promised, here come details on my Inter Rail plans.

Well.. ahm, I haven’t actually made any. Or at least, not many. Following are the few things that I do know about the coming 23 days:

  • Monday I’m going to go to Vienna by train, pack, visit the people at Caritas for an hour, visit my grandmother for an hour or something, buy my ticket, buy an international student identity card and then board the train leaving for Munich. After four hours I’m hopefully going to meet my friends at the train station, go out for a few hours and then board the train at 1:30 AM to Paris.
  • Tuesday we’re going to.. ah.. see Paris.
  • Wednesday and the following days are completely unplaned up to now, although cities I’d like to see include but are not limited to Berlin, Hamburg and Kopenhagen (apart from the aforementioned ones), we’d also like to see a bit of eastern France on our way back towards Germany, but that’s about it regarding plans.

If I can think of anything else to write later I will do so, but don’t expect any new posts during my tour of Europe..

Support Open Music!

First of all: I do seem to place quite a big proportion of my entries in the “geek” container. Wonder if this stems from a misinterpretation of the word “geek” by me, or just my general nerdiness. I’m going to investigate and post an entry about this soon (probably labelled “Geek” aswell.. ).

Second (got this one from Neil):

From http://www.osnews.com/comment.php?news_id=15694

Magnatune has the right idea and we love their motto: “We Are Not Evil”. They are a real record label but they give away 128 kbps mp3s of all their artist’s songs for free. If you like what you hear you can purchase higher quality DRM-free FLAC, Mp3, OGG, AAC, WAV versions at a price you set! If you don’t, you can always keep, share or delete your legally downloaded 128 kbps mp3, your choice.

They are sharing profits 50/50 with their signed artists and they allow consumers to share their purchased songs with 3 friends. What sets them apart from other “free music” web sites is that they actually sign artists that are able to produce high quality music and are serious about their work (rather than just being a random mp3 hosting site). Help their “21st Century business model” to spread by digging them.

Update: I’ve uploaded another theme and I quite like it so far. Got to get myself a better banner but that might be a project for post-Inter Rail times.. more on my Inter Rail plans later.
